THE LECTIONARY BASED SCRIPTURE STUDY PROGRAM is liturgy-based in that participants study the scriptural passages which will be used at the coming Sunday’s liturgy when the community gathers for worship.
The LBSS (Lectionary Based Scripture Study) program is both informational and practical. The program offers insights into the scriptural passages as based on contemporary biblical scholarship and the writings of specialists in the field of scripture. Participants are also invited to discuss, share, and reflect their own insights relative to the passages being studied especially as they relate to contemporary events or their own life situations. The program enables its participants to come away with a deeper understanding of the word of God. It aims also to prepare people for a more active and conscious participation in the Sunday liturgy especially when the word they had studied is now heard anew, tasted afresh, and better comprehended when shared by the celebrant at the time of the homily.
ELIGIBILITY
The Lectionary Based Scripture Study Program is open to all persons in the parish who seek to deepen their understanding of the Word of God when proclaimed during the Sunday morning Liturgy. Classes are presented prior to the community's gathering, and the format of the instruction is both lecture and interactivity.
BENEFITS
The Lectionary Based Scripture Study Program offers individuals an opportunity to enter more deeply into God's word, appreciate the background from which it emerged, discover its spiritually nourishing dynamics to one's faith life, and its relevancy to the contemporary scene.
GROUPS FOR WHOM LBSS MAY BE ESPECIALLY RELEVANT
include: those associated with the weekly Liturgy such as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Greeters, Altar Servers, Teachers as well as those in the R.C.I.A. ministry.
